More than 100 golfers enjoyed a sunny fall day on the links Monday at the 27th Annual National Guard Educational Foundation Golf Tournament held at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia.
Luke Guthrie, the NGEF director, said the event raised nearly $35,000, a record amount for the event.
The winning team, including (photo, left to right) Graham Stinchcomb, Eric Novotny, John Baker and Chris George (not pictured), finished at 11 under.
Blaise Lemke, the NGAUS Army programs manager, won the longest drive competition for the men and Susan Nelson was the longest female driver. Dan O’Brien (men) and Lisa Field (women) won the closest-to-the-pin competition.
Retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, the NGAUS and NGEF president, thanked the golfers for their support.
“We couldn’t do what we do without you,” McGinn said.
Golfers were provided with complimentary beverages by AM General. A buffet-style luncheon was sponsored by Collins Aerospace, an RTX Business; Military Benefit Association; Rolls-Royce North America; SPARGO, Inc.; TriWest Healthcare Alliance; and USAA greeted participants upon completion of their rounds.
Subsequently, a raffle took place which included many humidors, an autographed item by the Washington Capitals, as well as gift certificates donated by generous sponsors.
The tournament will return to Laurel Hill next year. The date is yet to be determined.
Established in 1975 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the NGEF preserves and shares all 389 years of the Guard story.
Independent of NGAUS, but co-located in the National Guard Memorial, the NGAUS headquarters in Washington, the foundation relies solely on charitable contributions to carry out its mission.
