Claire Feeney started this week at NGAUS as the new government affairs administrative assistant.
Feeney will provide support to the association’s government affairs team, including administrative tasks, policy workflow and operations/event planning.
The events planning portfolio will include the Capitol Summit, a professional development program for NGAUS members who are company grade officers; state association visits; receptions and the annual legislative workshop.
“I come from a Navy family, but I’m really looking forward to gaining a greater understanding of the National Guard and NGAUS’s legislative priorities,” Feeney said. “Guardsmen have been doing so much and I can’t wait to support their efforts and those of the association.”
Feeney joins the staff after working on Capitol Hill as a staff assistant for Rep. Brad Knott, R-N.C. Her other Hill experience includes working as an intern for Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., where she assisted the senator’s legislative staff.
“Claire brings valuable first-hand Hill experience, along with extensive research and organizational skills. We are so pleased to welcome her,” said Julian Plamann, the deputy director for government affairs. “Strong advocacy depends on a dedicated team working behind the scenes. This role is essential to supporting our efforts on Capitol Hill and advancing policies that strengthen the National Guard.”
Outside of D.C., Feeney participated in two additional internship programs that took her to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tunisia.
She has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Feeney currently resides in Washington, D.C.
