Washington Report

More than 200 state and territory National Guard association leaders and guests are registered for the National Guard Executive Directors Association's 2024 annual meeting Jan. 16-19 in Detroit.

Every January, state and territory executive directors and presidents from across the nation gather in the annual NGAUS conference's host city to share information and prepare for the big event later that year.

The association's 146th General Conference & Exhibition is set for Aug. 23-26.

NGEDA attendees will receive the latest conference details from the National Guard Association of Michigan. They'll also tour conference facilities, including official conference hotels.

State and territory Guard association representatives will also make rooming selections for their delegations based on an order determined by a lottery conducted at last year’s NGEDA meeting in Reno, Nevada.

Additionally, they'll get a preview of the 147th General Conference & Exhibition, Aug. 22-25, 2025, in Milwaukee from Wisconsin National Guard Association officials. They will also conduct their hotel lottery for that event.

The events during NGEDA's annual meeting begin Jan. 16 with a full day of training and information sharing from the association's staff.

NGAUS staff attending the meeting will include retired Brig. Gen. J. Roy Robinson, the association's outgoing president, and retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, its incoming president.

This year's agenda also includes open meetings of the NGAUS Corporate Advisory Panel and the NGEDA Payroll Deduction Coordinating Board.

Robert Sweeney, the executive director of the National Guard Association of Washington, is NGEDA's current president and will preside over the meeting.
