The upcoming NGAUS conference and a busy summer on Capitol Hill figure to dominate the discussion when the association’s board of directors gathers Saturday at the National Guard Memorial, the NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Board members will review final plans for the 147th General Conference & Exhibition set for Aug. 22-25 in Milwaukee.
They will also review legislative resolutions and bylaws changes proposed by the states and territories that delegates will consider during the association’s annual business meeting.
The final package of resolutions will serve as the foundation of next year’s NGAUS legislation action plan.
Board members will also consider nominations for 2025 NGAUS individual awards, many of which will be presented at the conference.
Congressional deliberations will also draw the board’s attention.
Earlier this month, lawmakers passed, and the president signed, a sprawling bill that includes $150 billion for defense, primarily for weapons acquisition, shipbuilding and the development of the “Golden Dome” defense system.
Congress now turns its attention to the usual summer work on the annual defense policy and appropriations bills.
Board members will also review the association’s midyear budget and receive a membership report.
In addition, the board will hear from the Adjutants General Association of the United States, the National Guard Executive Directors Association, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States and the NGAUS Corporate Advisory Panel.
The boards of the NGAUS Insurance Trust and the National Guard Educational Foundation will meet virtually on Thursday.
The association board consists of a chairman, vice chair-Army, vice chair-Air, secretary, treasurer, the immediate past chairman and 23 additional members, including three (one Army, one Air, one adjutant general) from each of six geographical areas nationwide, two retired/separated representatives (one Army, one Air), two company-grade reps (one Army, one Air) and a warrant officer representative.
Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, the adjutant general of Michigan, is the chairman of the board.
