The annual NGAUS Legislative Workshop is set for January 13-14 at the National Guard Memorial, the association’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The event provides a platform for those involved in Guard advocacy nationwide to discuss priorities as Congress begins deliberations on fiscal 2027 defense legislation, said retired Col. Jon “Ice” Eisberg, the association’s vice president for government affairs.
State and territory legislative liaisons, congressional affairs contact officers and association leaders are invited to attend, he said.
“We’ll be looking to align our legislative agenda with state and territory efforts across the 54,” said Eisberg, who will be presiding over his first workshop since taking over as the NGAUS governmental affairs director in April.
NGAUS leaders, National Guard Bureau officials and congressional staffers are scheduled to speak at the workshop.
The program will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day to allow attendees to set up meetings with House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill in the afternoons.
Things get started at 5 p.m. Jan. 12 with a no-host reception at The Dubliner, a historic Irish pub across the street from the National Guard Memorial.
Dec. 31 is the deadline for registration, which is complimentary, but state and territory Guard associations and/or individuals are responsible for all travel and hotel expenses.
More information is available here.
Eisberg recommends that those interested in attending contact their state or territory Guard association leadership, which must approve attendance.
