Army National Guard
The Issue
As Army National Guard units continue to deploy in support of overseas contingency operations and are often front-line units slated to deploy immediately in the event a major conflict breaks out, they should be equipped the same as the Active Component. Army National Guard formations are well behind the Active Component in terms of modernization and organization, including older generation M1 Abrams tanks and M2 Bradley fighting vehicles.
Recommendation
- Designate funding within defense appropriations legislation to modernize at least 30 Army National Guard M1A2C Abrams tanks
- Designate funding within defense appropriations legislation to continue modernization of Army National Guard M2 Bradley fighting vehicles
