This is the third in a series of virtual meetings with retired members that began last year.
“Our retirees may be done wearing the uniform, but they want to stay informed, and they want to keep contributing,” said retired Brig. Gen. Mike Oster of South Dakota, the retired/separated-Army representative on the NGAUS board.
“The virtual meetings, along with the Retiree Caucus and Luncheon at the annual conference, are our way to keep them informed and involved so they can keep contributing,” Oster added.
He and retired Maj. Gen. April Vogel of Maryland, the board’s retired/separated-Air representative, will host the meeting.
Oster said the agenda will include a summary of the association board meeting Nov. 15 and the results of a retiree survey conducted at the 147th General Conference & Exhibition, Aug. 22-25, 2025, in Milwaukee.
The meeting also includes a presentation by Curt Sheldon, the president and lead planner at C. L. Sheldon & Company, on qualified charitable deductions (QCDs).
QCDs are way of contributing from an individual retirement account to a qualified charity, such as the National Guard Educational Foundation, without having to pay income tax on them money.
C. L. Sheldon & Company is an Alexandria, Virginia-based financial planning and wealth management firm that specialize in assisting active and retired military officers.
“One of our retired members suggested the topic,” Oster said. “We are always looking to topics that uniquely geared to our retiree community.”
NGAUS has more than 13,000 retired members.
“Our retiree community is a great source of wisdom and potential grassroots action,” Oster said. “They want to keep contributing. NGAUS needs them to keep contributing. And we will be their channel of communications to keep them informed and engaged.”
The seminar will be recorded and posted on the NGAUS website for those unable to attend Nov. 20.
