Michael Metz joined the NGAUS communications team as senior writer/editor in October 2025.
The position is responsible for writing and editing news stories for NATIONAL GUARD, the association's bi-monthly magazine, and Washington Report, the NGAUS weekly e-newsletter. He will also provide content for NGAUS.org.
Prior to NGAUS, Metz worked in marketing and communications at the American Gear Manufacturers Association. He also worked in marketing and membership at other D.C. area associations.
Metz is familiar with the military having worked at Sightline Media Group, formerly Gannett Government Media. Their publications include Army Times, Air Force Times and Defense News.
He has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Richmond, and a master’s degree in Fictional Writing from Johns Hopkins University.
Metz currently resides in Northern Virginia.
