President Donald Trump’s defense priorities and the current session of Congress figure to be prime topics of conversation when the NGAUS board of directors meets this weekend for the first time this year.
New Pentagon leaders have already announced a series of policy changes and planned cuts that impact every component, with more likely to come.
Meeting activities begin Friday, with meetings involving the association’s General Conference Committee, Company Grade Committee, Warrant Officer Committee, the National Guard Educational Foundation board and the trustees of the NGAUS Insurance Trust.
The full 29-member board, the association’s governing body, will gather Saturday.
The agenda includes presentations from senior National Guard Bureau leaders and an update on plans for the 147th General Conference & Exhibition, Aug. 22 to 25 in Milwaukee.
The board will also hear from the Adjutants General Association of the United States, the National Guard Executive Directors Association, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States and the NGAUS Corporate Advisory Panel.
Evens will conclude with a reception recognizing approximately 15 major financial donors to the NGEF.
The board consists of a chairman, vice chair-Army, vice chair-Air, secretary, treasurer, the immediate past chairman and 23 additional members, including three (one Army, one Air, one adjutant general) from each of six geographical areas nationwide, two retired/separated representatives (one Army, one Air), two company-grade reps (one Army, one Air) and a warrant officer representative.
Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, the adjutant general of Michigan, is the chairman of the board.
