NATIONAL GUARD BUREAU ATTENDANCE AND TRAVEL GUIDANCE

The chief of the National Guard Bureau signed a memorandum to the adjutants general June 7 authorizing a limited number of officers from each state and territory to attend the NGAUS conference on official orders.

CONFERENCE THEME America’s National Guard: Affordable, Accessible, Lethal

EXHIBITORS More than 350 companies have already purchased booth space, according to Tradeshow Logic, the association’s exhibition sales and show manager. This exceeds last year's number of exhibitors in Detroit. Over one-third of the booths are new business.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION Over 2,600 National Guard officers, spouses and other guests have formally registered for the conference. 

SPEAKERS Gen. Dan Caine, the first Guardsman to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, tops the list of four four-star generals. Two more JCS members are also on the agenda: Gen. Steven S. Nordhaus, the chief of the National Guard Bureau, and Gen. Randy A. George, the chief of staff of the Army. Gen. John D. Lamontagne, the commander of Air Mobility Command, will also speak. Attendees will also hear from Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin. For the traditional Army and Air separate sessions, Lt. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs, the director of the Army Guard, and Army Lt. Gen. Mark Landes, the commander of First Army, will address Army Guard officers, while Air Force Maj. Gen. Duke A. Pirak, the acting director of the Air Guard, will speak to Air Guard officers.  

PANEL DISCUSSIONS Two panel discussions on topics pertinent to today’s warfighters are also on the agenda. One focuses on the Guard’s strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific region. The second panel will cover the threat at home and abroad from unmanned aerial systems. 

TRANSPORTATION Commercial bus transportation transfers from the airport to the downtown area hotels will run continuously from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Aug. 26, commercial bus transportation transfers from downtown hotels to the airport from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Transportation fee is $10 each way paid upon conference registration. Milwaukee airport is a 25-minute drive into the city. Buses depart every 30 minutes.

SCAMS Be aware of phishing scams related to registration and housing for the conference. Instructions for registration will come in a Call to Conference (see above) from the NGAUS president, while members will register and book housing in their room blocks through their state delegation. Exhibitors and other non-exhibiting industry will register directly through the NGAUS website. Distinguished guests, including speakers, will coordinate directly with Lakeshia Williams. Scams include attempting to sell you what they claim to be lists of conference attendees or contacting you via email or phone phishing for information about your hotel reservations. Only make conference registrations and hotel reservations with the NGAUS block through the website (for exhibitors and other industry), through your state delegation point of contact or NGAUS’ contracted affiliate Lamont Company.
