NGAUS strongly supports S.3002/H.R.5401 – Pay Our Troops Act of 2026. This bipartisan legislation would provide the necessary funds to support our nation’s Armed Forces and Department of Defense civilian employees until regular appropriations are passed into law, or through January 1, 2027.
Please contact your Congressional Delegation and ask them to support S.3002/H.R.5401 – Pay Our Troops Act of 2026.
BACKGROUND: A government shutdown significantly disrupts the National Guard mission. Canceled drill weekends and training negatively impact readiness and undermines the nation’s strategic posture. Our country relies on the Guard; the Guard should be able to rely on the government for support in return.
While debate continues in Washington, DC, military families are left with growing uncertainties. This is not just about paychecks. This also impacts critical programs for education benefits, mental health, family services, and transition assistance. Civilian contract support for Guard training has been paused, entire training years have been upended, and career progression has been delayed. These are not things that should ever be treated as a bargaining chip when negotiating the federal budget.
Immediate action is required to ensure our servicemembers can continue their role as the nation's primary combat reserve. We have an obligation to support our troops, and ensure the United States remains strong and secure both home and abroad.
