Necessity to upgrade H-60 Black Hawk helicopters with new cargo hooks that meet current requirements in MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-464 is a critical capability need. Cargo hooks currently installed on the Black Hawk helicopters do not meet these current standards.
Recommendation Information
Modernization and improvement of the National Guard external load capability on the H-60 Black Hawk with an enhanced Cargo Hook to significantly improve combat and incident response and readiness capabilities by resolving issues related to administrative and logistical challenges in managing and replacing cartridge-actuated devices (CADs), dynamic rollout of external loads, accidental actuation of the manual release, and improving operational readiness by allowing operator level maintenance and being in compliance with MIL-STD 810 and MIL-STD-464. The upgraded cargo hook will be a drop-in replacement; providing enhanced features such as a second solenoid in place of the cartridge actuated device to perform emergency release functions and provide emergency procedure training to pilots, a keeperless design eliminating the possibility of dynamic rollout, have an improved dual action manual release, have a line replaceable electrical harness, be fully compatible with US Army 25,000lb sling sets, and be end user serviceable.
