Proposal Statement
J-Model DMO-Capable Simulators at each C-130J Wing with rapidly upgradeable software & hardware.
Recommendation Information
Equipping every C-130J wing with Distributed Mission Operations (DMO)-capable simulators featuring rapidly upgradeable software and hardware architectures is essential to maintaining high-end combat readiness against peer adversaries. By networking simulators across different geographic locations, DMO allows local aircrews to routinely train in complex, multi-ship, and joint-domain scenarios that are often too dangerous, classified, or logistically expensive to replicate in live-fly exercises. Locating these advanced Weapons Systems Trainers (WSTs) directly at the wing level drastically reduces the Temporary Duty (TDY) costs and lost operational time associated with sending crews to centralized training hubs, keeping aviators on station and available for immediate tasking. Furthermore, incorporating agile, rapidly upgradeable software and hardware ensures strict concurrency between the simulator and the physical aircraft fleet as it undergoes continuous modernization. As the C-130J integrates new block upgrades and tactical data links, immediate simulator updates prevent the dangerous "simulator drift" that causes negative training. Ultimately, this decentralized and adaptable training infrastructure guarantees that every C-130J crew can instantaneously validate new tactics and maintain peak lethality without straining actual airframe fatigue lives or defense budgets.
