Fund additional equipment systems to fight wildfires from ANG aircraft through NGREA (Appropriation 0350) to ensure the Air National Guard maintains reliable, effective, and sustainable aerial firefighting capabilities in support of local and national wildfire suppression operations whether day or night.
Recommendation Information
Modernized internal firefighting systems are required to:
Ensure reliable surge capacity when civilian aerial tankers are fully committed; and allows additional aircraft to be available for Governors’ activation.
• Support state and federal disaster response missions under DSCA authorities
• Enable safe, effective retardant or fire suppressant delivery in complex terrain
• Provide increased retardant coverage compared to modern commercial systems
OPERATIONAL IMPACT - Additional internal firefighting equipment systems will:
• Increase aircraft availability and mission reliability
• Improve retardant drop accuracy and coverage levels
• Reduce maintenance downtime and sustainment costs
• Enhance crew safety through higher drop altitudes
• Ensure compatibility for all roller bed aircraft
• This additional system directly enhances the ANG’s ability to protect life, property, and critical infrastructure during catastrophic wildfire events
