Recommendation Information
With no current active radar systems that can detect UAS in the Army National Guard and limited capability in the Air National Guard. The need to Obtain active radar systems to detect dark drones or drones that don’t emit an RF frequency or are on a fiber optic cable is vital to protecting critical infrastructure and enhancing operational capabilities throughout NG formations.

NGAUS resolution will drive funding that will enable rapid procurement and fielding of a complementary radar layer across prioritized states and units, ensuring the National Guard can:
• Transition from RF-dependent detection to multi-sensor integrated C-UAS architectures
• Support Title 10 and Title 32 missions, including DSCA, border security augmentation, and homeland defense
• Provide governors and combatant commanders with a credible, scalable C-UAS capability aligned with evolving threat vectors

Use Active Radars in integrated C-UAS training, base security, and maneuver support to build both technical capability and operational readiness. This maximizes situational awareness, accelerates decision-making, and strengthens force protection in complex environments.

• Active radar systems are a cornerstone of modern Air Defense Artillery (ADA) operations, providing the detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities needed to protect forces from a wide range of aerial and missile threats. ADA units use active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars to continuously monitor the airspace around their positions. These radars emit their own radio signals and analyze the returned echoes to determine the distance, direction, speed, and sometimes elevation of targets. This allows ADA to detect and classify threats such as aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and cruise or ballistic missiles
• Detection & Tracking: Active radars can identify and follow multiple targets simultaneously, even in cluttered or adverse weather.
• Classification: Radars help distinguish between hostile, neutral, and friendly aircraft or missiles.
• Fire Control: By illuminating targets, radars enable missile or gun systems to engage with high precision.
• Command & Control: Radar data feeds into ADA’s battle management systems, allowing for real-time decision-making and coordination with other units

In summary, active radar is not just a sensor in ADA units — it is the primary eyes and ears for detecting, tracking, and engaging airborne threats, enabling both defensive protection and offensive countermeasures in modern warfare
