Recommendation Information
This is a 2026 WEPTAC Critical capability and is supported by both the F-15 WSC and CAF Task Force. Units Impacted. 142d Wing, Portland, OR, 144th Fighter Wing (FW), Fresno, CA, 159th FW, New Orleans, LA, 127th WG, Harrison Township, MI.The proliferation of inexpensive, yet highly capable, unmanned aerial systems presents a multifaceted threat to air operations. These systems range from small, single-use "suicide" drones to sophisticated, near-peer platforms capable of networked, autonomous operations. The sheer volume of these threats can saturate traditional air defense, and their low cost makes them an attractive and asymmetric weapon for our adversaries. Recent conflicts have demonstrated the effectiveness of these systems in both reconnaissance and direct attack roles, posing a significant risk to high-value air assets. The F-15EX, as a critical component of our air dominance strategy, must be able to effectively counter this evolving threat.
