Proposal Statement
Fund and Procure Conformal Fuel Tanks for the F-15EX to enable capability parity with the Active Duty component.
Recommendation Information
This is a 2026 WEPTAC Critical capability and is supported by both the F-15 WSC and CAF Task Force. Also submitted by NGB on Unfunded Priority List to congress for FY27.1. Background. ANG F-15s will be the kinetic enabler for the Long Range Kill Chain. This is due to the unique capability of the F-15EX to carry outsized munitions as well as large numbers of more conventional standoff weapons. However, the stations utilized for outsized munitions are also where extended range fuel tanks are placed. Procurement or retrofit of Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFT) allows an F-15EX to carry more fuel than a combat configured F-15C while preserving weapons stations for traditional and outsized munitions. The time from contract award to product delivery, either new build or conversion kit, is measured in years, therefore it is critical to place the order now. The addition of CFTs also allows the carriage of ATP and IRST on alternative stations. The pylons for these stations were not furnished with the F-15EX and must also be procured to ensure maximum lethality of the platform. In the future, a CFT equipped F-15EX will carry 8x AIM-120’s, 5x AGM-158’s, a Sniper ATP, Legion IRST, and two hours of fuel. 2. Requirement. ACC 22-210 (F-15EX -4 CFT Demo 3. Impact if Not Funded. Fighter units will need to generate five times the sorties for the same kinetic effect. Tanker requirements will similarly increase. ANG F-15EX units will be unable to meet Combatant Commanders’ requirements.4. Units Impacted. 142d Wing, Portland, OR, 144th Fighter Wing (FW), Fresno, CA, 159th FW, New Orleans, LA, 127th WG, Harrison Township, MI
