Proposal Statement
Replace M777A2 in Direct Support (DS) and General Support (GS) units with Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC).
Recommendation Information
Current M777A2 capabilities lack the range and survivability to achieve parity and subsequent over-match with adversaries to provide deep shaping fires in support of the Division and subsequently lacks parity with our adversaries; thus the means of engaging, maneuvers, shaping battles, fighting and winning LSCO is at risk.
The necessity to immediately replace its’ extinct towed cannon platforms with current requirements of longer range, improved mobility, crew survivability, and fire support, and reduced set up times, with an eventual goal of advancing the platform to an autonomous system. Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) will provide the Army with emergent technology and enhanced capability and in the Army of the Future concept should replace the current cannon capabilities within both Compo 1 and 2. Field Artillery Fires are and will be an integral and cornerstone for decisive victory for current and future LSCO operations providing dominant extended range, mass, deep precision fires, greater lethality, and increased survivability to achieve combined arms over-match via increased rate of fire, multiple round simultaneous impact, high levels of mobility, improved protection, faster resupply and more efficient sustainment.
