Provide/Test/Field an Onboard/Offboard Expendable Active Decoy (EAD) system to defeat RF guided missile threat that meets the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) requirement and is technical readiness level (TRL) 7/9 that is Commercial-Off-The Shelf (COTS).
Recommendation Information
CRITICAL NEED FOR SUPPORT- ANG and AFRC aircraft electronic warfare (EW) suites are comprised of a series of EW equipment designed in the 1980s, which are incapable of providing adequate defensive situational awareness and countermeasures for large and small radar cross section (RCS) aircraft against some present and most future radar systems
STATES IMPACTED - All ANG C-130H/J aircraft located at CONUS and OCONUS sites.
MISSION CRITICAL NEED – ANG and AFRC aircraft will remain at risk to many current and all advanced threat systems resulting in areas of denied access, significantly impacting the pilot’s ability to survive, accomplish assigned missions, and meet combatant commander requirements.
DEPLOYMENTJUSTIFICATION- Most C-130 H/J aircraft can carry an ALE-47 chaff and flare dispenser that can hold an EAD that decoys radar guided missile threats away from the aircraft to create survivable miss distance.
FUNDING JUSTIFICATION – C-130s require a robust electronic attack suite to counter current and future radar guided missile threats by ejecting an EAD that decoys the threat and creates survivable miss distances. EAD must be powerful enough to protect large and small RCS aircraft and meet the MVP requirement of TRL 7-9.
ANG REQUIREMENT – There is an established Critical C-130H/J model EAD requirement in the 2025 Weapons Modernization book that identifies the EAD as a solution to radar guided missile threat
