Proposal Statement
NGAUS recommends the purchase, installation, and test of an MSDSA sensor on-board a ANG UAS for evaluation, compliance, and training for future needs.
Recommendation Information
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) need to operate in unrestricted National Air Space (NAS). The FAA has been tasked by Congress to develop and implement a plan containing the regulations and certification requirements to accomplish this mandate.
To comply with FAA regulations, UAS’s will need equipment on--board that will allow a UAS it see and avoid private and commercial aircraft while flying in NAS.
The technology to see other aircraft in flight exists. A Muti-Sensor Detect See and Avoid (MSDSA) radar sensor has been developed and demonstrated that provides the range and field of view capabilities to sense intruders during flight and in obscurants. Thus allowing ANG UAS’s to operate in unrestricted NAS.
