Proposal Statement
AN/PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular refresh addresses older/ lower Figure of Merit (FOM), blemished or defective night vision tubes with latest high-performance white or green phosphor tubes and integrates the upgrade through the Guard's traditional maintenance program.
Recommendation Information
Recommending that NGAUS support funding for an AN/PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular refresh, modernizing the AN/PVS-14 inventory through a rolling reset. This proposed effort addresses older/lower Figure of Merit (FOM), blemished or defective night vision types with upgrades to the latest high performance (2376 or higher FOM) white or green phosphor tubes and integrates this upgrade through the Guard's traditional maintenance program. The benefits of the AN/PVS-14 tube upgrade investment is realized through; improved reliability, increased performance, and extends useful life of legacy fleet effectively modernizing the PVS-14 inventory.
Operationally, this refresh effort eliminates performance capability gaps against US recognized threat forces currently being supplied by night vision tube manufactures abroad while providing the guardsman with increased situational awareness which can improve the ability to maneuver and conduct reconnaissance and surveillance operations with the domestic and wartime missions. The recent emergence of the White phosphor high performance tube technology provides users greater image clarity, better contrast, improved depth perception, and superior performance in high illumination environments, reducing eye fatigue during periods of prolonged use.
