Proposal Statement
Identify roles, missions, and accession strategy for the ANG to attain and operate the CV-22 as part of the total force package
Recommendation Information
- The strategic shift to Africa and the Pacific highlights a shortfall in AF Combat Rescue (CR) that a conventional force can't meet
-- The CAANG operational environment and Title 10 CR mission represents these tyrannies of distance and time shortfalls
-- The CV-22 provides the high-end long range, anti-access, global strike response capability unmatched by traditional forces
-- The CV-22, as part of a mixed fleet (Helo and Tiltrotor) provides the National Command, TAG, and Combatant commanders more
flexibility that solves tyranny issues
- This capability provides more effective support to Homeland Security/Defense and State Title 10 and 32 response efforts:
-- NORTHCOM: Support to Hi- Polar response capability in a single aircraft that provides vertical lift and high speed Flight
-- Air Combat Command identified shortfall to recover ACC aircrew in the far reaches of polar operations
-- Rapid, tailored Civil Support and consequence management response at greater ranges and faster disaster relief response timing
-- Border Patrol, Counter Drug, day and night firefighting response more effectively and efficiently executed
-- Long range civil SAR support for the vast distances CA operations experience completed by a single platform more effectively
- Concurrent and proportional modernization
-- Provides long term stability and recruiting
-- Enhances CAANG mission growth capability, dependability
-- CV-22 efficiencies in improved mission support capability economies of scale reduces life cycle costs
--- Fewer assets required for an operation decreases complexity, single point failure, improves operations security
--- Less refueling required
The strategic shift to the Pacific region and Africa presents significant challenges for our conventional vertical lift platforms due to
range and speed limitations. The extended distances in these areas of national interest create excessive delays in response times
and coverage using helicopters. The rescue force of the nation must be able to meet these challenges as we field manned, longrange
