Advancing ARNG Aviation force structure modernization for required growth to gain parity with COMPO1 Division capabilities, through directed end strength increase designated for ARNG AVN to support force design update (FDU).
Recommendation Information
ARNG Aviation has been relegated to unique force structure allocations (SRCs) that limit the breadth of capabilities commensurate to its Compo 1 counterpart. While regular Army Combat Aviation Brigades (CABs) regarded as the common unit of measure, ARNG Divisions are allocated Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigades (ECABs) yielding vastly different capabilities.
For the ARNG to remain a relevant Operational Reserve capable of supporting Large Scale Combat Operations, it must demonstrate the ability to reinforce the Regular Army. Force structure drives authorizations and authorizations yield capabilities. If the ARNG is to be an MDO capable force, it must attain capabilities commensurate with those of the Active Duty or run risk of programmed obsolescence. ARNG force structure parity with Compo 1 can be achieve through targeted end strength growth that will enable the modification of current limited force structure, to like formations that provide common capabilities.
