Proposal Statement
Reinstating GI Bill benefits to and forgiving VA debt related to school closure for servicemembers and veterans who attended and lost credits at a school that closed prior to degree completion.
Recommendation Information
Justification: Service member must be relieved of any debt incurred as a result of the school closing as well as having full GI Bill benefits restored that were used at the school that closes. Otherwise, the loss of these GI Bill benefits will foreclose the veteran from attaining the education originally sought. This is provided the veterans credits are not transferable. Many colleges have closed leaving veterans with nothing to show for the GI Bill and the efforts extended in pursuing courses of study at those colleges.
Reinstate the GI Bill to the Service Members who attended a School that subsequently closed prior to degree completion with loss of credits and forgive the veteran for any debt owed to the VA related to the attendance at that school.
