Proposal Statement
Purchasing of current technology light sets with game-changing Tactical Lighting systems in 8, 10 or 14 light configurations as needed for tactical shelter light requirements of States, Territories and the District of Columbia.
Recommendation Information
The traditional Military Light Set is a standard 110v, 16 fixture waterproof kit originally used as a lighting kit for GP medium and GP large tents. The set weighs 150 lbs. and is stored in a plywood footlocker type container.
Installation in the tent is time consuming and the sets—which are subject to damage and bulb breakage--must typically be replenished after use in a field environment—costing up to $1,000.00 per BN (battalion) sized unit. Blackout light operation is inefficient and not well controlled.
Lighting technology has come a long way since this original light set came into use, now incorporating virtually indestructible—high illumination, low power consumption, low operating temperature lighting with ability to control lights individually or at the set level in red or blue blackout mode. Light sets can be left installed in the tent when it is taken down and stored—a real time and repair parts dollar saver.
A field deployable, 14-light Red or Blue (denotes blackout light mode) light kit—weighs less than 34 lbs. The one-time installation, durability, life expectancy and energy efficiency reduce the life-cycle system costs and the time to set-up and breakdown shelters compared to legacy lighting systems. The following is a sample list of NSNs (National Stock Numbers exist for all configurations and component parts) in high use for this new technology:
6210-01-664-1519 10-Light (Blue) Kit
6210-01-664-2036 14-Light (Blue) Kit
6210-01-664-3123 10-Light (Red) Kit
6210-01-664-2055 14-Light (Red) Kit
Recommendation: Fund a plan to replace legacy light sets with new state of the art, game changing shelter lighting technology system via the NSN order process. Get the TOC (Tactical Operation Center) setup and functional quicker.
