Recommendation Information
Background: The bandwidth required to successfully support the ANG C-NAF enterprise mission is significant and growing. The level and quality of the bandwidth provided must support the Falconer AOCs Program of Record, increasing Domestic Operations, Distributed Operations and training with aligned AD units, Continuity of Operations Planning, and remote and localized exercises. Training across the AOC, from the virtual ranges required for ACOMS cyber training to the expanding needs of the ISR, is placing a growing strain on the infrastructure of most ANG C-NAF units. An increase in size and quality from the current T1 (1.5mb) SIPR line, and increased bandwidth on Distributed Training networks (JTEN, ARCNET, DMON etc.) is required. Redundant circuits will be required for units providing Distributed Operations, as well as a direct connection to aligned AD units. A suggested baseline of a redundant, synchronous DS3 (45mb) on SIPR is recommended, but specific bandwidth requirements for each site must be determined and documented.
Impact If Not Funded: Network congestion, degraded system response and incomplete training results when the current infrastructure reaches saturation during exercises and operations. The lack of redundancy creates significant risk to Distributed Operations, and the lack of direct connection with aligned AD units makes collaborative training difficult. It also increases the ramp-up time when augmenting units are called to duty. Forthcoming mission requirements will further strain the network and exacerbate these problems.
