Given the need to respond to remote areas, which has been demonstrated in previous storm and disaster responses, it is critical that guard units have light weight multiple use capability equipment that can assist in the rescue and relief efforts. There is a need for a lightweight piece of equipment that can easily be deployed into areas in the assistance of local officials in disaster response situations. The lightweight vehicle should be maneuverable on both land and water and seamless transition one to the other without special setup or reconfiguration. The lightweight design should allow for easy transportation to and from remote sites, eliminating the need to deploy heavy haul equipment to aid in transport of machines to various mission sites.

A lightweight multiple use amphibious vehicle would enhance the capabilities of domestic operations and Civil Support units in assisting rescue and evacuation, present patrols, traffic control and other missions for storm and other disaster response.
