Recommendation Information
This bill authorizes the award of a Congressional Gold Medal to the troops from the United States and the Philippines who defended Bataan and Corregidor, in recognition of their personal sacrifice and service during World War II.
Many National Guard units including the 200th and 515th Coast Artillery Regiments from the New Mexico National Guard participated in the defense of the Philippines.
Most of these veterans have passed away but there remains a need to recognize their sacrifices.
There are currently four co-sponsors of this bill, two Democrats and two Republicans. This bi-partisan and non- controversial bill should be easy for legislators from both sides of the aisle to support.
