The previous Multi-Mission Launcher(MML) solution had a number of design problems and did not meet the Army Chief of Staff (CSA) intent in regards to a cruise missile defense solution. IFPC Inc 2 is a system of Radar, Command and Control node, Launcher, and Missile that defends fixed and semi-fixed assets against sub-sonic cruise missiles, Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) and threat fixed and rotary wing aircraft. IFPC will replace the Avenger short range air defense system (two Active component Air Defense Artillery Battalions (BNs) & seven ARNG Bns) and the Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) which currently performs Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) protection of forces in the CENTCOM AOR beginning in 4th QTR FY23.
