In order to ensure the relevancy of the Army National Guard Combat Aviation Brigades as an operational or strategic force, they must have the latest version of Tactical Unmanned Aerial System (TUAS) and Gray Eagle organizations, platforms, and equipment. This includes fielding the associated current configuration training devices in a concurrent and proportional manner with Active Component Combat Aviation Brigades. The Army National Guard will need eight MQ-1C Gray Eagle companies to fully support the long-term goal of having eight Combat Aviation Brigades aligned with eight Divisions. Adding Gray Eagle companies in the Army National Guard that replicate the structure of the Active Component Combat Aviation Brigades will help improve readiness, reduce mission failures while deployed, and help meet the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) wartime demand. In addition, adding Gray Eagle companies to the National Guard Combat Aviation Brigades will enable Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) capabilities with the four Army National Guard Attack Reconnaissance Units. The Army National Guard maintains several locations suitable to station MQ-1C Gray Eagle companies. These locations can facilitate the necessary airspace, training, manning, and logistical support required to keep these units in a high degree of readiness.
