Proposal Statement
Secondary-Combustion Ignition-Prevention (SCIP) provides automatic life saving passive fire suppression technology for vehicle fuel tanks. SCIP is a light weight matrix of expanded aluminum foil mesh that can prevent fires and reduce secondary explosions in fuel and storage tanks of all designs.
Recommendation Information
Recommend NGAUS accept this resolution to save lives with the mitigation of secondary fuel tank explosions..
- Stand Alone System providing life saving fire suppression and secondary explosion mitigation.
- NO personnel safety hazards - enhances system fire protection.
- Technology requires no power sources and has no day / night restrictions - agnostic across all platforms.
- Immediately deployable to the battlefield or domestic support areas for field installation.
- Low cost - No additional Maintenance / Sustainment Costs - Once installed results in significant Total Life Cycle Cost reductions/savings.
- Elimination of Electrostatic Charges, greatly Increasing crew safety during refueling operations in all adverse conditions.
- Liquid Stabilization - Elimination of slosh and weight shifts in the fuel tanks thereby increasing tank/vehicle stabilization across rough terrain.
- Increases Fuel Tank Rigidity and acts as an Endo-Skelton within the fuel tank, providing additional strength safety to tank.
- Increases survivability, reduces and/or eliminate loss of life, catastrophic injury from fuel fires/secondary combustion, life impacting explosions.
- Considerably Reduces fuel tank sustainment & maintenance costs over current methods and foam systems.
- Low cost, commercial off the shelf (COTS) - Ready and Available Today for installation at the OEM or in the Field
- Great savings and reduction to support costs and increase to vehicle program reliability, maintenance
- Combat Proven-battlefield used by 10th SFG in their HMMWV's in Iraq 1998-2000 with great success.
