Proposal Statement
To direct the Secretary of Defense to include in periodic health assessments, separation history and physical examinations, and other assessments an evaluation of whether a member of the Armed Forces has been exposed to open burn pits or toxic airborne chemicals.
Recommendation Information
Why do we need this legislation? This legislation is important for members of the National Guard because:

1.) Exposure to burn pits may be linked to a variety of health issues.
2.) This will enable the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs Hospitals to identify and research service members in the burn pit registry to help in determine the best care for service members.

2019 legislation for this issue is H.R. 663 and S. 191 “Burn Pits Accountability Act”
