Proposal Statement
The National Guard Energy Resiliency Initiative (NGERI) is a program to enhance the energy security and Resilience of National Guard armories and installations throughout the United States. NGB should seek to collaborate with the Department of Defense, Governor, and State National Guard Adjutant General to develop a Microgrid system proof-of-concept ($10mil) composed of a Combined Heat and Power solution for the State National Guard Headquarters and local National Guard armories supporting our local communities capable of operating independently of the local power grid in times of emergency, disaster, or power outages.
Recommendation Information
"Keepers of Dreams, a force for communities and county," the National Guard serves the nation, state, and most importantly, 2700 communities through the units and their local National Guard armories. For more than 150 years, National Guard armories have symbolized the dedication of American citizens to defend their state and nation. Volunteers needed places to store arms, ammunition, and equipment and train soldiers, and therein derives the concept of the National Guard armory. After a 1916 reorganization of the National Guard, particularly during the New Deal of the 1930s, armory construction became a priority for the federal government. By 2000, across the United States, Army National Guard and state guard units used and owned more than three thousand armory buildings, of which 12 to 15 percent were more than fifty years old. These armories are a hub for support during Natural Disasters and Emergencies.
Identifying these vulnerabilities is the first step in creating solutions providing the population and the National Guard confidence in their Energy security. Therefore, seeking support and funding ($10mil) to develop a Microgrid solution for the National Guard.
