Proposal Statement
New missile warning system (MWS) upgrade for the aging AAR-47 system
Recommendation Information
CRITICAL NEED FOR SUPPORT- All these aircraft suite requires considerable modernization to keep pace with surface-to-air threat technology advancements and proliferation. Modernized EW suite subsystems, architecture, and countermeasures will allow ANG A-10 aircraft to conduct full spectrum combat operations in the vast majority of today’s contested environments

STATES IMPACTED - All ANG A-10 Aircraft at CONUS and OCONUS sites

MISSION CRITICAL NEED - To survive, ANG aircraft require an MWS capable of processing ManPAD threats and automatically direct countermeasures to defeat those threats. Increased survivability without false warnings are needed to correlate threat detection and dispense countermeasures automatically. Current systems on the aircraft have significant false warnings which create a less then optimal environment for the A-10 to survive the close air support mission

DEPLOYMENTJUSTIFICATION- A robust integrated electronic attack suite that includes a state of the art MWS to enable all aircraft to either survive current and future ManPAD threats

FUNDING JUSTIFICATION – Replacing the aging MWS on the A-10 aircraft should be identified as critical unfunded requirements in the ANG Modernization

USAF FUNDING TO DATE – A-10 MWS will be funded out of the USAF Program Objective Memorandum and the National Guard and Reserve Equipment Account (Appn 0350)

ANG REQUIREMENT – A-10 MWS upgrade is applicable to all USAF, ANG and AFRC Aircraft and this standing requirement that needs to be considered
