Air National Guard A-10s require an enhanced ability to support operations in high-threat areas of operation by integrating additional standoff munition capabilities. These capabilities provide combatant commanders the flexibility to integrate A-10s into operations that directly support 5th / 6th generation operations while augmenting 4th generation operations by freeing up valuable weapons stations on F-16, F-15E, F-18, B-1, and B-52 aircraft. Standoff munitions integration can initially be accomplished through the employment of the ADM-160 Miniature Air Launched Decoy, while future standoff munitions integration should include the AGM-158 Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile. Additionally, integration and carriage of AIM-9X as well as AIM-120 is also required. The ability of the A-10 to forward deploy to austere locations, combined with a robust combat radius, offers combatant commanders and their planners a remarkable upgrade to options available in highly contested areas of operations.
