Proposal Statement
Continued low-rate initial production (LRIP) of the GE T901 Improved Turbine Engine targeting specific fleet requirements to improve environmental performance.
Recommendation Information
Updated changes to proposal statement above AND updates recommendation information as follows:

In July 2009, the United States Army developed the Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP) to improve the AH-64 and UH-60 hot and high capacities and increase combat radius by 270 nm. Selected in 2019, the GE T901 Improved Turbine Engine aimed to procure a 3000 shp engine to fit the UH-60 and AH-64, targeting a 25% reduction in fuel consumption, a 65% improvement in power to weight, a 20% improvement in design life, a 35% reduction in production and maintenance cost, and a 15% reduction in product development cost.
Twin-engined, the 3,000 Black Hawks and 1,000 Apaches Army wide require nearly 10,000 engines. Five years after selection in February 2024, due to reevaluation of competing interests, the Army announced that production would be indefinitely delayed.
NGAUS supports additive funding to continue low-rate production of the GET901 Engine to meet the requirements of limited performance fleets. Performance considerations within the ARMNG fleet that support Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) missions by providing high-altitude Wildfire and Search and Rescue capabilities are specific to only portions of the whole fleet. These specified requirements can be leveraged as a priority effort to assist in sustaining this critical modernization program while fulfilling a critical capability gap that both saves lives and reduces risk to aircrews.
