Provide small individual personal light beacon capable of marking a soldier or location with both visible and/or infrared spectrum lighting in order provide Soldiers and Commanders the ability to mitigate training or combat hazards in low-to-no-light conditions, or to aid in personnel recovery.
Recommendation Information
Requirement for IR or visible light strobes has long been managed by Aviation ALSE officers, however the need of ALL Soldiers to have access to small non-intrusive beacon lighting for daily training and combat operations is critical for Soldier Safety and Survivability. The need for every Soldier to have access to a beacon small enough to carry and capable of operating in the infrared spectrum as well as the visible spectrum is as necessary for training as in combat as Soldiers are at risk for becoming lost during training (ie Land Navigation) or injured in vehicle accidents when units are operating in black out drive.
- Beacon should be small, not to exceed 2” of any dimension.
- Beacon should be able to attach to a Soldier in Field Gear or Physical Fitness Uniform
- Beacon should be rechargeable using a standardized connection (ie USB-C)
- Beacon should be able to run continuously for 3 weeks (21 days) of night operations
