US Army has fielded Extended Positioning Location Radio System (EPLRS) to the Army National Guard Air and Missile Defense (Commands located in FL OH SC and seven ARNG SHORAD Battalions located in FL MS ND OH and SC)
The US Army is dramatically changing Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) to include Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar capabilities and Counter Cruise Missile capabilities. A Secure Network Radio’s capability supports emerging and future Air Defense requirements and is being fielded to all US Army Maneuver Forces, providing alert to US Forces of enemy indirect fire attacks
A Secure Network Radio will provide a much improved data communications capability to ARNG Air and Missile Defense Command, Air Defense Brigades and Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) Battalions. These ARNG Air and Missile Defense units provide SHORAD support to the Maneuver Force providing air and missile defense for the National Capitol Region- (NCR) and emerging future air defense data requirements
RECOMMENDATION- The US Congress and Defense Department direct the US Army to field A Secure Network Radio to all ARNG Air Defense units to insure Interoperability across the maneuver force to preclude obsolescence and insure success as these units begin modernization to counter emerging air and misses defense threats.
