The report of the Military Compensations and Retirement Modernization Commission recommended the consolidation of statutory authorities by which members of the reserve components of the Armed Forces may be ordered to perform duty to six. The 2016 National Defense Authorization Act and the National Commission on the Future of the Army both endorse this recommendation, and require a report from the Secretary of Defense to the Senate and House Armed Services Committee. Recognizing that service members are not compensated for distance learning, travel to and from duty station, and required leadership planning in preparation for IDT weekend the Indiana National Guard supports the consolidation of statutory authorities as long as this consolidation does not result in a reduction in monthly pay to National Guard service members.
