Proposal Statement
Life Cycle Extension for the Army National Guard C12 Transport Aircraft Fleet
Recommendation Information
The C12 fleet is currently operating with a non-modernized, and failure prone, avionics package and engine/propeller system that is over 35 years old. The transport fleet is expected to be in service for another 15 years. The current engine is no longer in production and reached obsolescence. With no replacement in sight, the old engine and prop systems must be addressed because of rising costs for these legacy power plants. A modernization package qualified at 14,000 lbs will extend the life cycle of the C12 and provide a solution that will ensure the fleet remains mission capable for decades. Capabilities for the C12 will be expanded. Modernized engines will solve diminishing manufacturing issues while providing operations and maintenance cost savings.

Recommendation: The US Congress and Department of Defense direct the US Army to fund/purchase the propulsion and avionics modernization package that will support the 14,000 lbs Max Gross Weight Army National Guard C12 fleet of aircraft.
