Proposal Statement
Fund and Procure Infrared Search and Track Pod Block 2 With Advanced Data Link
Recommendation Information
This is a 2026 WEPTAC Critical capability and is supported by both the F-15 WSC and CAF Task Force. 1. Background. ANG F-15s require multi-spectral search/track/targeting systems with advanced data links on F-15C/EX aircraft. Dominance in the infrared (IR) and electromagnetic (EM) spectrum enables the long-range search, track, ID, and target of low observable aircraft and cruise missiles in both Homeland Defense and Major Combat Operations. Infrared Search and Track (IRST) pods add long-range tracking capability beyond that of conventional targeting pods. Additionally, this capability is agnostic to target radar signature and is a critical enabler both to Homeland Defense and Major Combat Operations. Continued fielding and improvements to IRST pods is required to ensure lethality and survivability of US assets in peer conflicts.2. Requirement. ACC 25-129 (F-15EX IRST Integration), ACC 25-131 (IRST Block 2 Upgrade/pending signature)3. Impact if Not Funded. F-15EX’s in a peer engagement will be relegated to a single spectrum for search, track, and engagement of enemy aircraft leaving them at a disadvantage.4. Units Affected. 142d Wing, Portland, OR, 144th Fighter Wing (FW), Fresno, CA, 159th FW, New Orleans, LA, 127th WG, Harrison Township, MI
