Specialized electronic storage, transportation, and rack mounted equipment containers
Recommendation Information
Currently there are three (3) standing resolutions supporting heavy duty, high density, and tactical storage systems for Soldier gear and unit equipment; however, none that address the unique requirements of the C4ISR community for both Army and Air Guard. Specialized electronic equipment protection consideration areas are: environment, enclosures, power, and thermal management.
The wide variety of C4ISR equipment and systems are constantly changing and improving along with the Electromagnetic Compatibility, Electromagnetic Interference, and Electrometric Discharge (EMC/EMI/ESD) standards. This equipment is vital to mission success and requires unique storage and handling criteria. ECS Carbon Fiber Cases, Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP), and Thermo-Stamped Composite (TSC) rack mounts can provide advanced electromagnetic shielding as well as shock and vibration protection for electronic equipment of all types. Compliant racks are suspended within the center bodies of rack mount cases using 8-20 individual multi-axis elastomeric shock isolators. Shock cases are configured for the weight and center of gravity of the installed equipment. All hardware (latches, custom brackets and rivets) is stainless steel and recessed for maximum protection. Ergonomic acetal copolymer handles with UV inhibitor have comparable strength to steel at half the weight. An automatic air pressure relief valve protects the case and enclosed electronic equipment from rapid compression and decompression during transportation. Case shells provide extraordinary impact resistance and rugged durability at temperatures, which exceed a range of -65º F to +185º F. These transit and rack mount cases are water tight providing protection from moisture, salt spray, sand and dust throughout the world’s climate extremes. Impervious to fuels, oils and solvents, they can also be decontaminated if exposed to chemical warfare agents. These storage and rack mount cases include unique and compliant stacking features. These features allow rack mount cases to stack together and interlock on 463L pallets. Proposed Recommendation: Support incremental Modernization and Standardization by authorizing and establishing additional funding to procure and field modernized C4ISR storage, transportation, and rack mounted equipment throughout the National Guard.
