Proposal Statement
Sustain Light-Emitting Diode (LED) light tower systems for maintenance and mission support functions.
Recommendation Information
1. Security Forces must ensure lighting systems provide personal assessment capability and support camera systems. The placement of lighting should enhance assessment capabilities and prevent blind spots/washouts which could detract from assessment capabilities. Furthermore, access to lighting controls by Integrated Defense (ID) forces is a vital element to the overall defensive posture of the installation or restricted area. A well-lit area may be necessary to detect a threat; other times, the lights may need to be turned off to aid ID forces in defeating an adversary.
2. During Aircraft Maintenance Operations, light kits are used on the ramp during night ops to support the maintenance area around the aircraft to ensure personal safety and aid in the operation.
3. During Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Environmental (CBRNE) response operations light kits are used in the field during periods of darkness or low visibility for illumination of the Collective Protected Shelter as well as the decontamination area. The decontamination area can be nearly as long as a football field when doing mass decontamination operations.
The ANG Security Forces, Maintenance, and CBRNE functions need portable lighting systems to support night time operations. Light-Emitting Diode (LED) floodlight tower systems provide wide area lighting for these operations. Mission requirements dictate lightweight light kits capable of rapid deployment, battery operation, and quiet operation (for operational security and noise hazard reduction).
