For the first time in in 65 years, the Army will field a new weapon system to include the automatic rifle, a fire control system, and a new caliber family of ammunition. The Army will begin fielding these weapons systems in early 2024. Specific delivery time-frames for ARNG is unknown at this time. The anticipation is it will closely follow the ARNG deployment schedule as of 01 APR 2024. Units that will be receiving these weapons are those who have soldiers involved in close-quarters combat to include11B infantrymen, 19D cavalry scouts,12B combat engineers, 68W medics, and 13F forward observers. Three vendors have been deemed "suitable" vendors for the storage modernization needed to support these weapons: Spacesaver, Datum, and Marvel. Continuity in any armory is paramount. Current Force Modernization and G4 personnel should source storage equipment needed from the current arms room supplier. Armories that do not currently have 1 of the 3 suitable vendors should consider an entire army modernization project. Due to past performance within the Army & ARNG, combined with the size of the support staff, Spacesaver is recommended. Contract vehicle has also been identified: SPE8EJ-21-D-0020.
