The National Guard Educational Foundation(NGEF) was established in 1975 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to educate the public about the heritage of the citizen-soldier and the role of the National Guard in the U.S. military. Originally named the Historical Society of the Militia and the National Guard, NGEF operates and raises funds independently of NGAUS and is sustained solely by charitable contributions. NGEF funds scholarships for fallen Guard members, a National Museum, a Monument in Normandy, a library open to the public, and other events.

This organization should be included in 32 USC Code Section 508 (d).
