Recommendation Information
Change the National Guard Technician Retirement program to match other federal programs such as Air Traffic Controllers, Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, Capitol Police, Supreme Court Police, and Nuclear Materials Couriers.
•1.7% of your high-3 average salary multiplied by your years of service which do not exceed 20, PLUS
•1% of your high-3 average salary multiplied by your service exceeding 20 years
Minimum Age and Service:
Age 50 retirement eligible with 20 years of service.
Any Age retirement eligible with 25 years of service.
At 25 years of service a technician would leave with 34%.
The program already exists, no need to create a new program.
Management can manage the military career track and the technician can retire at a reasonable age with a decent retirement.
Accepts the reality that requirements faced by the technician in the guard are very similar to active duty military members.
The drawback is that it is not revenue neutral, some of this would be offset by the .5% higher employee contribution to FERS Retirement(.8% for regular employees, 1.30% for LEO employees)
