A lack of appropriated resources for maintenance support and equipment replacement continues to plague these specialty engineer unit readiness and ability to train effectively. The failure to secure future equipment and maintenance resourcing risks ARNG's combat effectiveness and ability to set and maintain a theater for LSCO and division-centric operations. The equipment in these ARNG engineer specialty units is generally past its service life expectancy. Most requires replacement or refurbishment of obsolete equipment that has substantially surpassed usable life expectancies. O&M funds are routinely used to offset this lack of funding exacerbating funding issues. These units include (by priority): Water Well Drilling Teams, Quarry Platoon, Asphalt Detachments, Concrete Teams, Utilities Detachments, Forward Engineer Support Teams (FESTs), Fire Fighter Detachments, and Engineer Facilities Detachments (EFD).
