NGAUS AFBA Active Life Member Scholarship

Sponsored by the Armed Forces Benefits Association (AFBA)

NGAUS and AFBA are pleased to announce two $5,000 NGAUS AFBA Active Life Member Scholarships. In order to be eligible, applicant must be an Active Life member of NGAUS or the dependent of an Active Life member and a full-time student seeking an undergraduate or post-graduate degree.

Scholarship selections are based on:

  • academic achievements, high school or college transcript GPA,
  • ACT and/or SAT scores
  • and an applicant essay

Selection of scholarship awardees is subject to the discretion of the NGAUS AFBA Scholarship Committee.

These scholarships are non-renewable but applicants may reapply annually.

* Definition of dependents for these scholarships are; a current spouse, biological child, child lawfully placed for legal adoption, adopted child, stepchild, or foster child.

Instructions  

Only complete applications (2018 Scholarship Application form plus all additional information/documents) submitted by the due date, electronically to scholarship@ngaus.org will be considered.

Complete Application due date:  May 31, 2018 11:59 PM EST

Additional information/documents that must accompany the 2018 Scholarship Application form:

Documentation required depends on the highest education level completed by the applicant to date. Please refer to the 2018 Scholarship Application form to determine which of the following documents to submit.

  • Copy of college acceptance letter
  • SAT and/or ACT scores
  • High school or undergraduate transcripts
  • Applicant essay
  • Signed and dated Photograph and Publicity Release Form

Applicants are required to submit a personal essay on the following topic:

Describe an experience with the National Guard and explain how it has shaped your development and goals

Essays should be between 300 and 400 words, double-spaced, Times New Roman, font size 12

Notification of Scholarship Awardees will be via mail, phone and email by July 15, 2018.

NGAUS will disperse scholarship monies between July 15 and Aug. 1, 2018. Payment will be mailed directly to the academic institution.

Why do you need a Photograph and Publicity Release Form?

With the permission of the recipient, NGAUS and AFBA will publish recipient biographies and images in publications and promotional marketing materials.

Exclusions, the following categories of people are not eligible:

  • Students attending one of the military service academies or academy prep schools
  • NGAUS staff and their family members/dependents
  • AFBA staff and their family members/dependents
