House Section 706, of the House version of the FY2010 NDAA, is of critical importance to National Guard medical readiness, but still subject to House/Senate FY2010 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference negotiations. There is no language on the issue in the Senate version of the bill.
Medical Care 180 Days Pre-Deployment (House Sec. 706) - This House bill authorizes members of the reserve components who are subject to a delayed effective date active duty order or official notification to serve more than 30 days in support of a contingency operation to be eligible to receive active duty medical and dental care as early as 180 days before the active duty is to commence. The current 90 day pre-deployment period of eligibility has proven inadequate in many cases, resulting in the possible medical disqualification of key unit personnel who are unable to resolve their medical condition within the current short 90 day window. This narrow window leads to cross-leveling of replacement personnel on very short notice from outside the unit and disruptive bottlenecks at mobilization stations.
Contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to support House Sec. 706 during conference negations of the FY2010 NDAA to ensure National Guard personnel are afforded the medical care necessary prior to qualifying scheduled deployments.
