Ron Wagner, NGAUS Board Member, Dies at Age 64

(May 23, 2014) Retired Lt. Col. Ron Wagner, a member of the NGAUS board of directors since 2010, died Thursday at his home in Cambridge, Wis. He was 64.

He was executive director of the Wisconsin National Guard Association and served as president of the National Guard Executive Directors Association in 2008. For NGAUS, he served on the board as the retired-separated Air representative and was a member of the finance committee, the futures committee and the general conference committee. He played a large role in planning the annual NGAUS conference in Milwaukee in 2011.

Maj. Gen. Steve Danner, the NGAUS board chairman, said today, “We are saddened by the news of Ron’s passing. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife, Kathleen, his family and to all of Ron’s National Guard family. Ron was a dedicated patriot who put the country and the good of his fellow Guard members first and foremost. He will be missed.”

Wagner joined the Air Force in 1968 and served tours in Thailand and Germany before joining the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1972.  He was commissioned in 1979 and retired in 2000.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nitardy Funeral Home in Cambridge and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cambridge. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. He will be buried at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Tomah, Wis.
